Narasingha

Narasingha is the fourth avatar of Vishnu, the one who could not be contained by any category of existence. When the demon Hiranyakashipu had obtained the boon that he could not be killed by man or beast, by day or night, inside or outside, by weapon forged or thrown, Vishnu tore through the very fabric of definition itself and emerged as Narasingha, neither man nor lion but both simultaneously, at the threshold of dusk that is neither day nor night, on the lap of the demon that is neither inside nor outside. He is the god who answers not with argument but with the absolute, the one who reveals that reality will always exceed the boundaries that the ego attempts to impose upon it.

Here he is depicted in his Yoga Narasingha aspect, seated in sovereign stillness upon the coils of Adishesha, the infinite serpent of cosmic time, his lion face fierce yet composed, his golden crown rising into the five-headed serpent canopy above. In his four arms he holds the Sudarshana Chakra, the spinning wheel of pure discernment that cuts through illusion, and the Shankha, the conch of luminous sound whose call dissolves all that is false and awakens the sleeping soul to its own nature. At his feet, Hanuman and Garuda kneel in reverence, the lord of wind and the lord of sky, two of the greatest devotees in all of creation bowed before the one whose grace they have chosen above all else. To meditate upon Narasingha is to feel the protection of a force that operates beyond all conditions, the fierce grace that arises precisely at the moment when no ordinary solution remains.
