Kalagni is the first emanation of Shiva as wrath, the fire of primordial awakening that blazes forth at the dawn of each cosmic cycle and burns at its end. In the Tantrik understanding, Agni is not merely the element of fire but the living breath of Shiva's fury made manifest, the force that tears the veil of ignorance and illuminates the absolute. Kalagni reveals the two sacred faces of Agni: Jatavedas, the all-knowing fire that carries oblations to the gods and witnesses every act of creation, and Kravyada, the consuming fire of the cremation ground that devours the flesh and returns the body to its elemental source. Together these two faces embody the complete arc of existence, from the fire that sustains life to the fire that dissolves it. In the Tantrik scriptures, Kalagni burns at the base of the spine within the Muladhara, waiting to rise as Kundalini and incinerate the illusion of the separate self. To contemplate Kalagni is to stand at the threshold of both creation and annihilation, and to recognise in that blazing threshold the face of Shiva himself.
