Pashupati is among the oldest known icons of the divine, the horned lord seated in yogic stillness upon the Indus seal, surrounded by animals, radiating the sovereign calm of one who holds all living beings within his awareness. He is Pashupati, the lord of all pashus, the bound souls, whose very gaze is liberation and whose stillness is the eye of the cosmic storm.

In the Shaiva Tantrik understanding, Pashupati is not merely a deity of animals but the master of all that is bound by the three malas, anava, karma, and mayiya, the veils that obscure the soul's recognition of its own infinite nature. To contemplate his form is to feel the knot of the heart begin to loosen, the breath settle into the rhythm of the eternal, and the seeker dissolve into the vast, silent pasture of pure Shiva consciousness.

In this painting, the three-faced lord sits in deep samadhi upon a golden throne, his blue-grey form luminous against a radiant aureole of gold and white light. The buffalo, rhinoceros, elephant, and tiger emerge from the clouds around him, while two ibex stand quietly at his feet among wildflowers, echoing the ancient seal. His horned crown rises in purple majesty, and the rudraksha mala rests at his chest, marking him as the supreme yogi from whom all creatures draw their breath and to whom all creatures return.
